Watch footage of Slipknot soundcheck with band unmasked
Newly unearthed footage of Slipknot sound-checking without their masks and iconic costumes has surfaced online.
In celebration of the new year, @slipknotvideos_ – an Instagram account dedicated to sharing clips of the band’s iconic performance and, according to their bio, “preserving the history of Slipknot with care and responsibility” – have shared rare footage of Corey Taylor and co performing ‘Liberate’ during their soundcheck without wearing their legendary red boiler suits and masks.
The special moment of The Nine tearing through the track dates back to January 1 2000, during the soundcheck for their New Year’s Day gig at the Super Toad venue in their hometown of Des Moines, Iowa.
“The new millennium began with Slipknot performing in Des Moines at the Super Toad. The performance took place exactly on January 1, 2000. In addition to a spectacular complete recording of the show, the sound check was also recorded,” read the caption of the post (as translated from Portuguese via Google Translate.)
Slipknot are currently on their ongoing 25th anniversary tour which will resume next month in Australia. The tour sees them exclusively play tracks from their 1999 debut album.
Speaking to NME last month, Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan opened up about how the tour is currently going and shared: “Revisiting the debut album reminds me of what it felt like in the beginning, though. I was a bit of a naysayer about the idea at first, but the fact that we’ve been around this long and can now walk into these venues to play our first album, without having to put all the hits into it, has been mind-blowing.”
He continued: “I don’t like to drudge up a lot of those feelings. I work on being present more than anything, but for this tour I allowed myself to let it all in again. There are a lot of people who aren’t on the planet anymore and that makes it tough. There are also brothers who aren’t in the band anymore, so that makes it all the more personal when you’re on stage.”
In other news, former Slipknot drummer Jay Weinberg recently revealed that he is working on solo material and planning to record a solo album this year.
