On August 1, Steve Nicks postponed what would have been an imminent set of North American tour dates. The songstress and icon of the 1970s and 1980s reported a fractured shoulder on social media, which resulted in a new start date for the run. Having received the proper care and feeling up to the task, Nicks took the stage at the Moda Center in Portland, Ore., on Wednesday night, where she revived the Tusk featured “Angel” for the first time since 1983.

The event oscillated between originals, covers, and pulls from Nicks’ Fleetwood Mac days, but not before dusting off The Crickets’ “Not Fade Away,” which sent a clear message that the 77-year-old has no intent of slowing down. From the onset of the initial song, Nicks continued her performances with a mingling of material from her 1981 debut, Bella Donna, and ‘83 follow-up The Wild Heart.

While much of the material alluded to a particular time in Nicks’ career, she also positioned her 2024 single, “The Lighthouse,” as a modern interlude and battle cry for women. Before the night’s big arrival, she paid tribute to her 40-year friendship with the late Tom Petty, covering “Free Fallin’.” “Gold Dust Woman” took position ahead of “Angel,” the 1979 Tusk cut, which Nicks had not performed since Fleetwood Mac’s Mirage Tour on June 28, 1983.

Nicks’ return to “Angel” on Wednesday night ended a 42-year gap in deliveries, illustrating the musician’s willingness to explore her songbook and different phases of her lauded career.
