Watch: Umphrey’s McGee Perform “Staircase” Live from Red Rocks for ‘Colbert’s’ #LateShowMeMusic

Stephen Colbert has added another installment to his #LateShowMeMusic series, spotlighting Umphrey’s McGee performing “Staircase” live from their Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The video was recorded in June 2023 during the band’s soundcheck and shared via the late-night talk show host’s official YouTube page. Watch below. 

“Staircase” was released as a single in February 2023 and served as a follow-up to Umphrey’s McGee’s full-length studio album, Asking For A Friend. The newly shared video captures a peak performance from the ensemble: Collective prowess, complimentary vocals, and a natural cascade of refined melding of sound and spirit developed over their 25-year history. 

From the natural ambiance of the initial scenes featuring a vacant Red Rocks venue, the video explodes from soundcheck to the actual live show, capturing a contrast of their warm-up to the official performance and reception of the audience. Notably, UM performed at Dillon Amphitheatre on June 15, followed by two nights in Morrison, Colo., on June 16 and 17, 2023.
