Youth Group Announce New Album ‘Big Whoop’, Share Single + Tour Dates

Youth Group have shared details of their sixth studio album, entitled Big Whoop. The follow-up to 2019’s Australian Halloween is set for release on Friday, October 10th via Impressed Recordings, and will be supported by a national Australian tour kicking off just a few weeks after that. The band reunited with producer Wayne Connolly to make the album, having previously worked together on Australian Halloween as well as their first two studio albums: 2000’s Urban And Eastern and 2004’s Skeleton Jar. The album includes the single ‘Siberia’, which the band released back in July 2024, as well as the newly-released single ‘The Joke’, which can be streamed below.

The announcement of Big Whoop comes after a false start for the band earlier in 2025. The band had previously been slated to open the Lookout Festival, announcing their appearance back in November 2024 for the regional festival across February and March 2025. They were to perform alongside the likes of Jet, Grinspoon, The Veronicas, Spiderbait, Jebediah and Magic Dirt. Their own headlining shows were also booked for around this time.

Due to what were deemed “unforeseen circumstances” at the time, however, the band cancelled the tour and pulled out of Lookout. “Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who had already bought a ticket, or was planning on coming,” the band shared on social media back in February. “We are disappointed to not be playing, but will re-schedule a tour for later in the year once the new album is out.”

The upcoming Big Whoop tour will feature support from The S_ft F_cus – the side project of drummer Danny Lee Allen – on all dates. They will be joined by a reunited 78 Saab and Lisa Caruso in Sydney – ironically, on Halloween – as well as Greg Brady And The Anchors in Brisbane, The Panics frontman Jae Laffer in Perth and singer-songwriter Hannah Cameron in Melbourne.

Last week, the band made an appearance in the supplementary Hottest 200 Of Australian Songs list, showcasing the songs that missed out on the main countdown. Their chart-topping cover of Alphaville’s ‘Forever Young’ from 2005 came in at number 126, marking one of four covers to get in the entire 200. The other three were Shannon Noll‘s version of Moving Pictures’ ‘What About Me’, which came in at number 129, Christine Anu‘s version of Warumpi Band‘s ‘My Island Home’, which came in at number 116, and Natalie Imbruglia‘s version of Ednaswap’s ‘Torn’ at number 32.

Ahead of the tour, this weekend will see Youth Group frontman Toby Martin undertake a three-night residency at Sydney’s Church Street Studios. There, he will perform solo sets reflecting on the three decades of his career: Night one, on Friday, August 8th, will cover 1995 to 2004, while night two will cover 2005 to 2014 and night three will cover 2015 to the present day.
