YouTube Posts Double-Digit Q2 2025 Ad Revenue Jump Amid Continued Shorts Growth

YouTube advertising revenue jumped 13% year over year to $9.8 billion during Q2 2025, when services including YouTube Music achieved 11.7% revenue growth from the same period in 2024
These and other performance particulars come from Google parent Alphabet’s newly released second-quarter earnings report. Amid a well-documented focus on AI, which was rather unsurprisingly a big part of the corresponding conference call, overall revenue improved by 13.8% YoY to $96.43 billion during the period.
And the lion’s share of that sum ($82.5 billion) derived from the multifaceted Google Services category, which houses the business’s all-important search offerings as well as, among many other things, YouTube Music and Premium subscriptions.
Therein, search and other sources kicked in about $54 billion during the quarter, execs communicated. However, as is also the case with Apple’s financial disclosures, Google/Alphabet doesn’t provide service-specific breakdowns; a more detailed 10-Q filing wasn’t yet live at the time of writing in any event.
Nevertheless, we aren’t without a few worthwhile details about the Q2 2025 showings of YouTube, Music, and more. (Separately, DMN Pro already maintains a one-stop breakdown of streaming services’ U.S. market shares.)
“Subscription, platforms, and devices revenues increased 20% to $11.2 billion, primarily reflecting growth in subscription revenues,” Google/Alphabet CFO Anat Ashkenazi said during the call. “This growth was driven by YouTube subscription offerings followed by Google One, with the growth in paid subscriptions being the biggest driver of revenue growth.”
“We continue to see strong performance in YouTube as well as subscriptions,” added CEO Sundar Pichai, “reflecting great momentum across these high-growth businesses. In the U.S., Shorts now earn as much revenue per watch hour as traditional in-stream on YouTube. And in some countries, it now even exceeds in-stream’s rate.”
In keeping with the Shorts revenue disclosure, the format, evidently fueled in part by super-viewers, now racks up an average of over 200 billion daily views, Pichai reiterated.
Shifting to the call’s Q&A portion, one question explored YouTube’s advert-versus-subscription focus from a revenue perspective; chief business officer Philipp Schindler offered a non-committal response.
“Look, we love our ads business, we love our subscription business. YouTube subscriptions are increasingly important for YouTube… We had a strong growth across YouTube subscription products, which includes, just to be clear, YouTube TV, YouTube Music, and Premium,” said Schindler. “So I think we will continue this as a double-tier strategy actively going forward.”
Despite beating revenue and earnings ($28.2 billion) expectations, Alphabet stock (NASDAQ: GOOG) experienced only modest post-report valuation growth, with shares hovering around $195 apiece in after-hours trading at present.
