Baker Boy Enlists Briggs And Haiku Hands For Posse Cut ‘Freak Out’

Baker Boy has continued his comeback trail with the release of his third single in nine months, ‘Freak Out’. His latest single sees the Yolŋu rapper collaborating with two other Australian acts for the first time in his career: Briggs and Haiku Hands. It marks the former’s first solo release of 2025, following the launch of Big Noter in April 2025, and the latter’s first new music since ‘Kicks’ last October.

In a press statement, Baker Boy described ‘Freak Out’ as having “bratty energy”. “It’s a bit of an f–you to the man, to the ‘grown-ups’, and to the system, but done in kind of a cheeky and playful way,” he said. “It hits on the very real experiences of being a Yolŋu man living in the white world. The reality of balanda (non-Yolŋu) people touching my hair, tokenising me and telling me how to live my life. [This is] me taking back that control, and being like, ‘Nah, I’m not putting up with this. I’m going to live the way I want to’.” Briggs, for his part, said in his own statement that it was “about time” they worked on a song together. “I’ve known Danzal [Baker Boy’s real name] for nearly ten years,” he said. “I’ve watched him grow as a person and an artist. Yolŋu and Yorta-Yorta connecting again!”

The song’s music video was directed by the team of Aurie Indianna and Jordan Ruyi Blanch, who worked on the clip for Baker Boy’s previous single ‘Peacekeeper’. It was shot on location at Werribee Mansion in the southwest suburbs of Melbourne, and picks up where the ‘Peacekeeper’ video left off. “We again used dance as a nod to his origins, but this time to challenge and disrupt the grandeur of the space,” said Indianna in a press statement.

“We wanted a sense of growing chaos throughout the video. It begins with sharp, choreography-led moments that show a new staunchness in Baker Boy’s performance. As Briggs and Haiku Hands enter, the energy becomes more chaotic. Briggs brings undeniable power, while Haiku Hands inject playful, feminist strength.”
