Pink Floyd has stitched together all nine movements of “Shine On Your Crazy Diamond” for the first time into one 25-minute song. Listen to the latest preview of their forthcoming Wish You Were Here 50 box set below.

“Shine On You Crazy Diamond” arrived with the original album in September 1975 and was inspired by their departed original leader Syd Barrett. “It’s my homage to Syd,” former bandmate Roger Waters says in a rare archival clip included with the expanded reissue. “My heartfelt expression of my sadness, but also my admiration for his talent. And my sadness for the loss of a friend.”

Barrett co-founded Pink Floyd and was the creative force behind their early singles and celebrated 1967 debut LP, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. But he struggled with addiction and mental health issues then departed after the follow-up, 1968’s Saucerful of Secrets.

Only two solo albums followed before Barrett vanished from the music scene. He made an unexpected visit during the recording of Wish You Were Here, but his bandmates barely recognized him. Still, Barrett’s creative vision remained an inspiration. Fellow co-founder Nick Mason later launched a side project devoted to the Barrett era, also called Saucerful of Secrets.
