NPG Records and Paisley Park Enterprises have released Live at Glam Slam in Dolby ATMOS and Sony 360 Audio formats — a never-before-released live recording by Prince & The New Power Generation recorded at Prince’s Glam Slam nightclub in 1992.
Today, NPG Records and Paisley Park Enterprises have unveiled, in partnership with Sony Music Entertainment and Warner Records, a previously unreleased live recording of Prince & The New Power Generation, Live at Glam Slam — presented in Dolby ATMOS and Sony 360 Audio formats. The never-before-released recording documents a historic performance at the artist’s Minneapolis nightclub on January 11, 1992.
Live at Glam Slam offers fans the opportunity to experience Prince and the NPG at the height of their power — the intimate 1992 performance was organized and recorded on brief notice, arranged to preview the Diamonds and Pearls Tour. Prince and the band tear through songs from the recently released Diamonds and Pearls albums and at a breakneck pace.
This performance featured not only the first time Prince & The New Power Generation would publicly perform the full Diamonds and Pearls Tour show — and the only time they would perform it in the US — but at least five new songs were unveiled, including “Thunder,” “Insatiable,” and “Willing and Able.”
Further on the Diamonds and Pearls front, an upcoming expanded reissue of the album will include 47 previously unreleased audio tracks. Besides the album itself, the expanded reissue will feature over two hours of live, filmed concert footage in high-definition, Prince’s handwritten lyrics, and a 120-page hardback book with never-before-seen photos by Prince’s photographer, Randee St. Nicholas.
To accompany the release, an official multi-part podcast series on the creation and legacy of the album will be released, with Episode 1, “Welcome 2 The New Power Generation,” launching on October 12.
Hosted and produced by Minneapolis native, author, and broadcaster Andrea Swensson, the podcast includes the memories and insights from every member of that era’s New Power Generation and examines the process that led to the album’s creation and enduring impact on Prince’s legacy.
