Anita’s Theatre, Thirroul’s most iconic venue, is celebrating its landmark 100th birthday.

Since first opening its doors all the way back in 1925, Anita’s has been at the heart of the local community, standing as one of NSW and Australia’s most cherished live music spots.

The venue has witnessed the great and the good of Australian music and entertainment pass through its doors, including The Wiggles, Cold Chisel, Midnight Oil, Hoodoo Gurus, James Reyne, Kasey Chambers, Macy Gray, Missy Higgins, Sarah Blasko, and Paul Kelly.

Anita’s Theatre has also showcased films such as The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Dirty Dancing, hosted weddings, functions, film shoots, and comedians including Kitty Flanagan, Arj Barker, Tommy Little, Ross Noble, Ben Elton, Urzila Carlson, and more.

In the past three years alone, Anita’s has welcomed over 160,000 fans, hosted nearly 300 shows, and showcased 82% Aussie homegrown talent.

To mark its 100th birthday, Live Nation is hosting a special week of live events, culminating in a headline show from Aussie pop-rock favourites Lime Cordiale. The centenary week lineup also features English comedian Rob Beckett, Hindley Street Country Club, and more.

Bob Mangan, Venue Manager of Anita’s Theatre, commented: “Anita’s Theatre is more than a venue — it’s a cultural landmark that has brought joy and inspiration to generations. We’re thrilled to honour its 100-year history and look forward to many more decades of unforgettable live experiences.”

Anita’s is also marking its 100th birthday by creating a community time capsule that will be kept safely within the theatre until it’s opened in 2125, featuring historic keepsakes, snapshots of the theatre today, and predictions and notes from current performers. The sealing will be marked at celebrations on the October 22nd.

To be in with a chance of winning double passes to the anniversary events, fans are invited to share their favourite memories or photos of the venue. To enter, comment on the competition post on Facebook or Instagram with the show you’d love to see and your favourite Anita’s Theatre memory or photo (T&Cs apply — see here).
