No K-pop groups or soloists were nominated for 2024 Grammy Awards — BTS remains the only K-pop group to have ever received a nomination.
A list of nominees for the 2024 Grammy Awards was released on Friday, November 10, but no K-pop act appeared on the roster, despite several high-profile acts (including BTS, Stray Kids, and Tomorrow X Together) submitting their work for consideration.
All seven members of BTS submitted their solo releases in different categories, but none managed to secure a nomination. Jimin’s “Like Crazy” was submitted under the Song of the Year and Best Music Video categories, while Jungkook’s “Seven” was submitted for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance — the same category in which BTS was nominated in 2021. BTS remains the only K-pop act to receive a Grammy nom.
Beyond BTS, there have been numerous commercially successful K-pop releases in the eligibility period (October 2022 to September 15, 2023), including albums from NewJeans, Tomorrow X Together, Seventeen, Fifty Fifty, and Stray Kids. None have been considered for Grammy Awards — but it’s not just K-pop acts who have been noticeably snubbed from the 2024 nominees.
Musicians in other genres who somehow got the cold shoulder for a 2024 Grammy despite their obvious successes this year include Pink, Kim Petras, Jack Harlow, the Jonas Brothers, Shania Twain, Tanya Tucker, Sam Smith, and Morgan Wallen.
Luke Combs received a single Grammy nomination (Best Country Solo Performance) for his hit cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car,” despite the success of his Gettin’ Old album. The wider acclaim for his version of “Fast Car” saw both Combs and Chapman receive 2023 Country Music Awards for the track last week.
Following a history-making 2023, Taylor Swift is poised to make further history at the 66th annual Grammy Awards on February 4, 2024. Meanwhile, SZA is sweeping the competition in overall nominations with nine, and Miley Cyrus could secure her first win. Other names on the list include Billie Eilish, Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo, Phoebe Bridgers, Lana Del Rey, Ice Spice, Jelly Roll, and Jon Batiste.
