Fortnite reveals an upcoming collaboration with The Weeknd for the game’s upcoming ‘Festival’ mode beginning on December 9, complete with special outfits and other cosmetics.
The Weeknd has announced his collaboration with Epic Games’ video game sensation Fortnite for the upcoming “Festival” mode, debuting on December 9. The new game mode sees players experiencing a musical rhythm game in Fortnite, with free cosmetics to earn as they level up.
Fortnite Festival will feature a leveling system separate from the game’s Battle Royale and other modes. Experience points gained for completing quests in the Festival mode will not count towards the Battle Pass included in the core game. Instead, this experience will count toward progression of the Festival Pass — much like previous “mini-game” passes in Fortnite, such as their collaborations with Star Wars and other IPs.
The Festival Pass will enable players to purchase access to a “Premium” rewards track, granting double the amount of cosmetics, including an exclusive “After Hours” version of The Weeknd as an in-game outfit.
Cosmetics earned in the Fortnite Festival will include Auras — a new type of cosmetic only usable in the Festival mode — and classic items like emotes and outfits, which can still be used in other game modes.
Additional information will drop once Fortnite Festival drops on December 9, with the first season of the game mode exclusively featuring The Weeknd. It caps off a big week for Fortnite, with multiple new game modes releasing in the days leading up to the Festival. Fortnite welcomes its new LEGO mode on December 7, and Rocket Racing on December 8.
LEGO Fortnite, described as a “survival crafting game that lives within Fortnite,” will introduce “vast, open worlds” for players of all ages to enjoy building with LEGO blocks in the brightly colored Fortnite universe. The game will “encourage creativity, experimentation, and collaboration through play,” and serves as the first digital experience from the partnership between The LEGO Group and Epic Games.
